Let’s talk Combat
Lazy Bear Games’ September 18 development log explains how combat supports the effort to liberate The Town. City battles happen on a particular—but still unnamed—day of the in-game week, while the sewers offer fights on other days. Battle objectives vary by district, and preparation can include barricades, towers, zombie squads, and combat potions.
When and where combat happens
- Liberating The Town is a weekly task. City battles are available only on a certain day of the in-game week, but the announcement does not name that day.
- The sewers are described as open “6/6” and populated by hostile zombies. The devlog also names a place deep below The Town called the Sewrena, without publishing its access conditions.
- Town battles take place in the streets rather than separate arenas. Victorious districts later become populated by townsfolk and market stalls.
Objectives differ by district
The Town Square example asks the player to withstand enemy waves arriving from every direction. Central-street battles instead require advancing on multiple fronts and capturing control points. The developer describes city districts as distinct battle arenas with their own designs and win conditions; it does not publish a complete district or objective list.
Defenses and zombie squads
Materials can be used to build barricades and towers, while raised zombies become combat allies. The devlog says players can position zombie-fighter squads or raise their banner and lead them directly. It gives all-archer squads, damage-dealing spiked barricades, and combat potions as examples of different tactical approaches.
Two specific developer notes
- The developer says players will put a little over 4,000 zombies to rest over the course of the game. That figure does not reveal story length, encounter count, or the number present in one battle.
- The developer says mouse-and-keyboard combat can be controlled with one hand. The announcement does not describe remapping, accessibility options, controller behavior, or platform parity.
What remains unknown
The devlog does not publish the city-battle weekday, Sewrena requirements, defense costs, weapon or potion statistics, squad limits, enemy scaling, difficulty options, control-point rules, or platform-specific performance. The examples above are announced mechanics, not tested strategies or final balance data.
Editorial classification
This record is a development log. It is not a patch, sale, or release announcement, and it does not change the announced September 22, 2026 release date.
